Finally after more than three years making a mistake and welcoming the Slovak Republic in the EU with its Benes decrees the EP wakes up- Admin
The largest faction in the European Parliament, the European People's Party and the European Democrats, want the European Parliament to condemn the Slovak parliament’s declaration on the inviolability of the legal and proprietary consequences of the Beneą Decrees, the daily Hospodárske Noviny reported on October 16.
The German MEP from the Christian Social Union, Manfred Weber, came up with the initiative, which several deputies from the faction confirmed to the daily.
Slovak MPs from the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) intend to join the German deputies. SMK MEP Arpád Duka-Zolyomi said this issue likely cannot be solved in Slovakia, so it is necessary to use other tools, such as the European Parliament or the Council of Europe.
Czech deputies are expected to join the Slovak MEPs who are voting against the motion.
The Beneą decrees stripped Slovak citizens of Hungarian ethnicity of their civil rights after the Second World War. Their property was expropriated and about 90,000 ethnic Hungarians were deported to Hungary.
